Provide Technical Risk Management services supporting Marine underwriters and business development team to achieve profitability and growth of marine business and ensure compliance with the regulatory policies.
Process and manage claims for Marine Hull & Liabilities according to the company guidelines and best practices.
Quality Control of Claims (Marine Hull & Liabilities) and Technical Risk Assessment to achieve targeted profit.
Monitor technical risk and claim trends.
Technical Risk Management
Ensure consistency in risk acceptance and adherence to any relevant standards applicable in the company, country and internationals;
Provide Technical Risk Management service to support underwriting/distribution activities;
Provide technical support/services to underwriters;
Conduct risk assessment surveys relating to ship’s machinery and hull when needed;
Assess technical risk and determine the marine insurance coverage position on the aspects of damage, collision and grounding, fire and explosion, salvage operation, etc;
Perform risk and loss control analysis and identify areas for improvement;
Maintain accurate loss information and prepare reports, as needed, for claims reviews, actuarial analyses and other risk management purposes;
Provide technical expertise in the area of Marine to the team;
Provide training to Marine team, intermediaries and clients on subject matters (Marine Hull and Liabilities)
Claims Management for Marine Hull and Liabilities
Appoint an appropriate service providers to investigate circumstances and severity of loss to protect the Company’s interest in situation where the loss event could potentially trigger a significant financial exposure for the Company;
Liaise with the marine surveyors, survey agents and other experts and monitor their output from a technical quality and service point of view;
Liaise with P&I Clubs, shipowners/managers or surveyors on all claims related matters;
Handle claims made on marine insurance policies;
Interpret and advise claims adjustors of marine insurance policy;
Recommend claims adjustors on settlement of claims under the applicable terms and conditions of marine insurance policy;
Ensure adherence to legal requirements, industry regulations and customer quality standards set by the company;
Track clients performance and provide insight on client’s risk profile prior to renewals;
Negotiate with intermediaries, adjusters and claim team on any disputed or contentious claim with a view to attain an amicable and reasonable settlement;
Develop and maintain the professional reputation of the company with brokers and clients;
Requirements:
Possess 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in sea-time, with a good understanding of the various facets of ship design - function, appearance and safety.
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Civil Structural Engineering or Engineering in Marine Technology;
Diploma or any related certification in General Insurance.
Some legal knowledge (i.e. Maritime Law) would be an added advantage.
Critical thinking, writing skills, complex problem solving, complaint handling and service oriented.
